You gotta read the novella first! I managed to do that ok, but I wish I'd known what order to read along with the Mercy Thompson series- just go to her website and there's a handy reading timeline. Worth it, trust me!
I love the world-building most of all, as well as the romance element and the setting (Cabinet Mountains in Montana, for this one). Anna and Charles learn and grow in their relationship and as individuals throughout the series.

So yeah! Second time around went much better after I went ahead and read the short story like I should have in the first place.

I seriously love the mercyverse - and the Alpha and Omega books are the best. This time I had read the short "Silver" before reading and it gave the issue with the witch a whole new depth. Even better my second (or is it 3rd?) read. My first time on audio, also fantastic.

i enjoyed this a lot, even though i’ve read the series in the wrong order. patricia briggs writes good werewolves and this introduces some really good backstory and information about the wolves, i also like the focus on charles because i thought he was an interesting character that we didn’t get to see much of in the mercy thompson series. sam’s characterisation in this is really bad though, he comes of as smug and unlike able sadly. but yeah it’s really good for a bit of bran’s backstory and development of his relationship with leah. i loved anna as well, i thought she was a really good main character and was very strong and managed a lot of trauma in a really well written way.

Still holds up. The audio time around lost just a little bit. I felt he did a GREAT job with Charles, but lacked a little in the overall feel of the book.
