Great appendices and glossary to help with Latin terms, but overall this is a dense and unreadable book. Admittedly, I skimmed the last 90 pages as it was not worth the slog. I didn’t learn anything more than I already know about Pompey.

I can't comment on the quality of the scholarship but I've no reason to doubt its veracity. I did enjoy it, although it was a bit too "academic textbook" for a casual reader like myself.
