It was sad how much I could relate to parts of this book and the narrators life. Although it is relatively slow paced, this book contains some of the most beautiful writing I’ve ever layed my eyes onand got me leaving anotations on every other page. Just a heads up as I wasn’t warned of this before, but there’s a lot of sexual content, just something to keep in mind.

I tore through this one. Rather astonishing—and a bit of a thinker. I don’t entirely know what I’ve just read and somehow it’s ok. It’s beautiful and thought-provoking and I will be sitting with it for a while.

This book just ripped my heart open. I felt the things I thought I would not feel again. Beautifully written, devastatingly sad.

Really beautiful book and would highly recommend for poetry lovers in particular, unfortunately the poetic register is something I am not usually a fan of. So heartbreaking and thought provoking.

Borrowed from my local library & the cjtalksbooks club pick for July (late reading)

I found it hard to rate this book knowing it's based on the author's real life. Some heavy topics, beautiful prose and a story about coming of age/coming to terms with your childhood & sexuality during a lot of turbulence.

“Sad” doesn’t do this book justice as a reading mood. The prose was so beautiful I could tell right away this author is a poet. Prepare yourself if you’re going to read this. Every time I set this down I felt emotionally wrecked and hugged a pillow. But absolutely one of the best well-written pieces I’ve ever read, a modern classic in its own right. Didn’t cry but I feel like sobbing. Still worth the read.

Was worried I would like this book as much as everyone seems to but it was a lot better than I thought. Gorgeous writing and a cast of characters you can't help but to root for even when they aren't great people.

A beautiful, tender take on a mother-son relationship and on how the things we don't tell shape us in so many ways.

And the title?? I think it makes  sense once you've read the book.
