Continuing to enjoy this budding ridiculous relationship with Jinshi. I have to admit I'm confused as to why she and her dad work with/for the courtesans. Did she get kidnapped twice?

Spoiler Maomao finds out that the hairpins she received from the Garden Banquet grants her the chance to leave the inner court and briefly return home. So she makes a deal with the solider Lihako that she will introduce him to one of the Three Princess of Verdigris. Jinshi comes to call on Maomao only to find that she’s taken up one of the hairpin offers and went home for three days. Lihako’s then introduced to Pailing. Maomao is then reunited with Pa, the man who raised her [it will later be revealed that he is the uncle of Maomao’s birth father]. Later Maomao save some lives at another brothel. She then returns to the Inner Court, JInishi is upset that Maomao didn;t come to him for help and is jealous.  Maomao then discovers that Kounen was murdered and did not die of natural causes. This is the first in a string of connected events.
