This is one of my favorite children's books by far. It is very creative and quite silly and humorous.

Unlike the other chickens, Minerva Louise loves to explore on snowy days, but even this adventuresome chicken isn’t immune from the cold. She goes looking around the farm for something to keep her warm, as shown through simple, colorful illustrations with plenty of primary colors. What will keep readers’ attention is the way Minerva Louise misinterprets the world around her; a coiled hose is a scarf, but “it’s way too big,” and a pair of mittens becomes the perfect hat. The humor will delight children who are figuring out what goes where, and who enjoy pointing out the mistakes made by this enterprising chicken.

Minerva Louise is not the brightest chicken. The preschoolers laughed at the items she tried to wear.

I'm glad I grabbed the whole handful of Minerva Louise books off the library shelf last go around, she's a curious hen trying to make sense of her world and not quite being smart enough to pull it off, and so she makes the kids giggle every book. The kids are excited when they find another Minerva Louise book in the stack, definitely look her up your next library go around and take all her funny tales home for bedtime story time, should be a hit with your kiddos.

Oh Minerva Louise! I just love her. She's so cute and funny. Minerva Louise spends the day looking for a hat to keep her warm in the winter weather. She is ultimately successful (kind of). Would work for a winter storytime. Kids would need to be 3+ to understand the joke I think, despite the small amount of text.

Fun, silly, and a great read-aloud. Recommended ages 2-Kinder.
