I really enjoyed this novel version of ‘Resident Evil’ but there was times I did get confuse which means I totally need to play the game properly so I can understand better and reread it again. :)

The book was very true to the game and was well paced. There was an expectation of the reader understanding why certain things happened, like oddly mentioning a typewriter and at times randomly saying copious amounts of ammo was found (the only way to understand is if you played the games). This aside, I did not rate this book any higher because the book failed to capture any sense of horror. I would venture to guess that fans of the series will enjoy this book more than the average reader.

A novelization of the ‘96 version of the first Resident Evil game and a surprisingly good one at that. The author, Stephanie Danielle Perry, had to pick up a lot of slack thanks to the original game’s less-than-stellar script and hilariously awful voice acting, which she actually pokes fun at in one surprisingly comic scene.
The pacing is also quite deliberate and attempts to hybridize both campaigns, as well as the activities of the non-playable characters, into a single coherent narrative. To this extent, it works quite well up until SPOILERS: Chris, Jill and Rebecca all run through at least half a dozen different creatures that were spaced apart in the game almost immediately one after the other.
It should be noted that a lot of the expansion the story gets here voided in the main universe thanks to later games, so just know you’re walking into an alternate, What-If? Universe here.
Overall, this book was a fun and pleasantly tense read in some parts. Recommended only for fans or those curious about the franchise or at the concept of a literary adaptation of a game that seemingly did not lend itself well to one, though.

Resident evil is a game francise I grew up with when I was only just starting high school and I couldn't stop playing it at all as all the games are simply amazing, due to the whole gaming I had to get the book series to see what would be waiting for me through the books, I wasn't disappointed at all.
Resident evil the umbrella conspiracy is Definately based on the first game of the resident evil francise and I can simply say the book did stick to the first game very well, even if there was some changes but oh my it was so good, couldn't put it down at all.
I really liked how it went on about what the characters were doing when they were split up and I really loved it, I just wish it didn't end so soon.
Now then onto the next resident evil adventure caliban cove.

Review for the Resident Evil Series

What Worked Well
• Flow
• Characterisation
• Other: (the books worked well as an adaptation - not a perfect adaption though)

What Didn't Work Well
• Fast Pacing
• Other: (the only thing that didn't apart well was the puzzle-solving, which was skipped over in the books)

Not a bad video game novelization. Nothing spectacular of course, but certainly enjoyable. I have heard that some of the other novels in the series are really well done, so I look forward to checking them out eventually.
