Well that was just a whirlwind. For a young adult novel, it was extremely gripping and suspenseful. What a great time. Can't wait to read the next one. Truly a terrifying adventure! (And very educational on the vocab words, Jeff đź‘Ť)

Stranded is the first in a series for middle school age kids by Jeff Probst of Survivor fame. The story follows 4 children from a blended family (a sister/brother from each parent) who are sailing with their uncle and friend off the coast of Hawaii, while their parents honeymoon. The trip is meant as a way for the kids to bond, working out the difficulties (personality/attitudes) of blending into a new family. Halfway through their trip and some 900ish miles from Hawaii, a sudden storm finds the kids shipwrecked and separated from the adults on board. Stranded is the first book of three following the kids and their efforts to get rescued. It ends with a cliffhanger...we have to wait til the second in the series is released to see what happens next.

I thought the book flowed well and the writing appropriate for middle school aged kids, but will appeal to adults as well. This may be the new Swiss Family Robinson in the vein of Survivor. I'm hoping this series fares better than Probst's talk show.

Survivor for kids! As a parent, I appreciate how the kids in this book treat one another, generally thinking the best about each other, even if they end up with very similar "voices" to one another. There is a lot of action and adventure in this short little book that might appeal to a lot of young readers. I didn't necessarily love this as an adult, though it ended on such a cliffhanger that I might just have to skim the rest of the series to see what happens!

Fun and exciting read with my 8 year old. She brought this home from the library all excited that Survivor was made into a book. Great for older elementary/middle grade kids who love adventure.

I've said it before - I'm a sucker for survival stories - bad things happen, someone is put into a survival situation, they experience adversity and usually survive - it's like crack for me.

So I was pretty excited to find this book (yes it was written by "that" Jeff Probst)

meh

not good, not bad, average

Bad storm - boat goes down - four brothers and sisters stranded on an island - sounds good but it was missing something - never really thought they were in trouble, never really thought anyone would get seriously hurt, injured, killed....and that is just a bad sign for a survival book (when there is no element of danger)

it's a quick read so I wouldn't waive anyone off from reading it but I also wouldn't tell people to go read it

I am a major Survivor fan so I picked this up thinking how fun it sounded. The premise is good - 4 kids stranded on an island with no adults. The problem with this one is that it is all the story leading up to the shipwreck and then really just barely into the issue of surviving. Don't get me wrong - I will probably purchase these for my library but by itself it didn't get far enough into the story and survival for me to get really excited about. I am hoping for a lot more in the next installments.
