I don't often get scared by books, but this story had a sense of creeping dread throughout that really unsettled me. It's the first Lovecraft I've read and i read it mostly in bed in the dark, so that probably added to it! I thought for a moment that the ending might turn out to be too vague but it was actually satisfyingly grim, just enough explained, vague enough to keep you thinking.
