Hikari is a very driven heroine, especially when it comes to her competition with Kei. This was a funny and cute story. It had great pacing and kept my interest throughout. I'm interested to read more about the secondary characters.

This was such a sweet and funny romance manga series. I finished the entire series in two days, so I guess it's safe to say it's hard to put down. If you want something that's light-hearted and fun, you should pick this up!

A re-read of the series after 10 years and it hits just the same - such a classic shōjo! A lot of people’s complaints are because you’re reading it now, the era was different back then, just gotta jump into it for the vibes!

REREAD
This is my 3rd time rereading Special A. This manga forever has a special place in my heart. It's definitely not for everyone, but I love everyone especially Haruki who's the densest person ever but the cutest <3

I started watching the anime first, based on how much I enjoyed watching Maid Sama and Ouran High School Host Club. This is similar to those two, and equally as addictive. It's a fun storyline about a girl who cannot get over her obsession with beating a boy (at anything), who so very obviously likes her it's funny and pitiful how much she ignores it. I cannot wait to read the second volume, but it'll be a while as there's a waitlist on the copy at the public library. Argh!

Rivals to lovers where one of them secretly pines after the other!!!

Some aspects have not aged well (like Kei's casual sexism) and Hikari is a typical shoujo heroine (naïve/oblivious, kind, and wants to help everyone even when they don't deserve it). I did like her determination and strong work ethic, and the art style is very cute. Also this was more violent than I thought it would be???

Not sure if I will continue the series, but this is a nice start!

Content warning: animal cruelty (a horse is kicked), violence (wrestling related), incest (sort of? it's one sided and involves an engagement)

 4 stars.

This was really cute and had most of the shojo tropes. The tone of the manga reminds me a lot of Ouran High School Host Club, in the best possible way. I feel like that is a good sign and that means I can get really invested in the characters and their relationship with each other. (Sidenote: I really loved the bonus story "Incomplete Chorus". I thought it was really sweet.) I'm curious to see the story progress and see all the shenanigans that ensue.
