I liked this a lot. I especially liked the girls: Kirsten, Perry, as well as Savanna. I enjoyed the relationship Dylan had with his family, it was fun to read.

I did feel like it dragged a little from like 60-80% through, but when Dylan caught Savanna and Devon it picked back up. The ending was super sweet (no pun intended) and I really liked the way it tied back to the beginning with it taking place at the Dairy Queen, but also the Simcity drawing was so cute and made me think back. Success!

I read this at the peak of the Disney/don’t say gay bill drama!
And as a Gay person who didn’t have these kind of books growing up it is important to talk about sexuality and identity, because it makes young people who haven’t seen enough of the world or maybe people like them in their town that they aren’t an outlier.
Books about queer teens make me feel seen even to this day!

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this novel.

Hesitant between 3.5 and 3.75 stars.
All in all, this is a really cute queer YA sci-fi/fantasy novel. Although the way this is written wasn't the best (in my opinion; a bit too simple), if you are able to get past that, it's still pretty solid. I feel if I had read this book when I was in high school, I would've loved it more with the Pokemon references and the science elements. Also, I need to mention that this book cover is beautiful.

Decent book and one that I enjoyed reading.

The author characterizes the characters very well, and the imagery is often very specific. The plot is enticing and suspenseful as well, although the mechanism causing the supernatural elements is not particularly realistic. The author also comments about what love means and how society views in, which I found insightful.

My first main criticism is that Dylan's and Jordan's relationship is perhaps not as central or developed as it should be. Their dates are rather lackluster and although Dylan frequently comments about how Jordan makes him feel, he doesn't go much into the why (beyond his hotness, figuratively and literally), and it makes their relationship seem a little bit shallow. Nonetheless, I still found their interactions heartwarming (pun intended).

My other criticism is that the second half of the book feels quite chaotic and rushed. There were a lot of plot points that were barely explained, to the point that I thought I had accidentally missed a few pages when I was reading. Dylan's relationships (with Jordan, his friends, and his family) seemed to go through unrealistic back and forths, and the happy ending felt a little bit forced.

Also, Dylan's actions felt very immature at times. I know he's a teenager in a YA novel, but come on, Dylan–you can't just repetitively complain about boys ghosting you and then proceed to ghost your friends for two weeks.

Despite my critiques, I really did enjoy reading this book and its blending of supernatural phenomena with relatable high school experiences. It's a portal into a world like ours, but with its own unique spice.

This book was a painful read it was really bad. Like the plot has so much potential, but all the characters are unlikeable or boring, I was constantly just annoyed and felt like there was too much unimportant details.
