I love a fairytale retelling series, and you don't see the Frog Prince as often as other fairytales. I liked the backstory of Caterina, and getting to know her as a person. The end reveal seemed a little bit out of place for this book, and I would have liked to see Rahul deal with his family issues, but overall I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to book 3!

I'm not so sure I liked some of the implicit implications of this book, what with the frog prince theme and Rahul going from severely anxious and rather socially inept to having enough confidence to just sweep past that. Especially considering his friends' reactions before and after and their treatment of him in the first book too. Just felt a little too ableist and insensitive

Rahul, naam toh suna hoga? Except no one cares about Rahul the wallflower here.

Things that went through my mind while reading this:
They’re 17? They’re 17-ish, sorta 18.
I think I need to review the frog Prince

About a third of the way through this, I wasn’t really feeling it. And then the self-hating really came into play and I wondered where this would lead. Who are these new characters, what is happening? And then a plot twist that I probably should have seen coming, but it got me anyways. And basically I absorbed the rest of the book in a couple hours.

Anyways, generally quite good. Up to the standard of Sandhya’s other books. The stuff that the characters think or do sometimes feels a little underbaked or trope-y, but it’s a fairy tale retelling and it’s teenagers, so it works. The next book better have Rahul showing up in Family pictures.

Cute. The end was a little too dramatic and YA for my liking - but overall I liked the themes and the discussions.

3.75 stars. A lot of cute moments and things I really enjoyed. However, there were some things I didn’t completely love.

Overall, I am not a huge fan of Menon’s writing style and although I do like this series, I’m not quite sure if I’ll pick up the third book or not.
