However, the aunties also annoyed the hell out of me with their in-fighting (which I understand was a choice the author made to reflect her culture, but just got tiresome for me as a reader), Nathan is too perfect to be real, the dead body plot is somewhat cute but mostly just a series of dumb decisions, and Meddy's stream of consciousness narration was distracting.
Kissing and mentions of sex but no sex scenes.
Minor: Cursing, Death, Racism, Sexism, and Sexual content

This book was a fever dream in a good way. I never liked those weird slapstick murder comedies where everything went wrong but maybe I just needed to read/watch one where the characters aren't white and already absolved from guilt by the law simply because they're white. The anxiety of being found out and actual steep consequences occuring really added to the absurdity of how blaise Meddy's mother and aunts were. This book was so fucking enjoyable and I cannot believe there's a whole other book. I don't know what the fuck is happening in that one but the excerpt at the end of this was already wild enough.
Graphic: Confinement, Death, Sexual assault, Kidnapping, Car accident, and Murder
Moderate: Alcoholism, Bullying, Drug use, Racism, Sexism, and Vomit

I loved how strong the family and the culture was in Dial A for Aunties. In my copy there's a letter from Sutanto about trilingualism being a product of their quest for safety and dreams. How it results in broken pieces of language and moments in life, not stereotypes on a TV show. I loved how Dial A for Aunties was an entertaining page turner focused on Meddys' inner struggle between her family and her own dreams. It's all a matter of perspective and speaking up about what we want. Because when people leave it can be a blessing or a curse.
Moderate: Racism and Sexism
