Such a beautiful book, I found the story a little lacking, but the physical beauty of the book makes up for it.

This is really short but really pretty read. I love the story, I love the art and I love the poetry kinda storytelling. I stole this book from my moms bookshelf to read this evening and it was totally what I needed this evening! Absolutely loved it

Gorgeous book, no doubt about it. But the story was lacking. I didn't really get the ending. Maybe if it was a couple pages longer it would be more well rounded.

Honestly, buy this book because the illustrations are beautiful. The actual storyline probably isn’t the best I’ve come across in a children’s book, particularly the ending (seemed rather abrupt). But the illustrations and the rich navy of the clothbound cover more than make up for it.

This book is absolutely beautiful in all ways from the actual physical book, to the illustrations, to the story. It's a sweet fable (an original one, apparently) about a fox who wanders by the light of a star. But one day he can no longer see his star and he spends his days in his den, until he decides to face the gloomy dark forest to try and find his star. It's a simple story but the way the author uses the illustrations and the text to convey more of the story is just beautiful.

Really liked the illustrations, which are so gorgeous they belong on the walls of a woodland nursery. Got tripped up while reading aloud due to the unconventional text placement. Down for any story with a fox.

This is the most beautifully illustrated book I have ever had the fortune to read. The story was wonderful.

2016 reading list: the first book I see in a bookstore
A beautifully crafted story with beyond elegant illustrations - 4*
Introducing one of Waterstones' book of the year (2015). I am in love with this book's illustrations so much. As I am training to be a primary school teacher, I've read my fair share of children's books. I still have a long way to go. Now, a lot of people I know focus on children's classics, i.e. the books they read when they were younger. Now I do a love a lot of these books and I will treasure these but I think a lot of adults these days seem to believe that children's books stopped publishing after the 1990s. So we stick to the classics and that's it because that is all children need to know. Wrong. I am sick of Julia Donaldson (unbelievably overrated!) and the (dreaded) Where the Wild Things Are. Give me a break, I am sick of that book... It is done to death!! I want books that capture my imagination as well as the children's. I want to feel invigorated by children's literature not stuck in an episode of 'Who Do You Think You Are?' There are so many new and upcoming children's authors, who are not valued enough because they are not the classics. Please give them a try, they're worth it!!!
For example, this book: The Fox and the Star.
This book has so much to offer: there are lots of hidden gems of language which can be discussed with children through book talk questions; the theme of loyalty and friendship; hibernation and the seasons.
I love that I'm training to be a primary school teacher because I have a reason to pick up delightful books like this. The illustrations need a special mention because they are beyond beautiful and add elegance and sophistication to this book.
I think this book is aimed at year one/two. I definitely would read this through shared reading as there are a lot of clues to Fox's relationship hidden throughout the book, which need to be guided through with an adult.
A beautifully read book that NEEDS to be shared with a child.
