Merrick is one of my other favourite entries in Anne rices vampire universe. The pacing for Merrick is extremely fast but engaging and never once did I want a chapter to be shorter or longer, I also enjoy that merrick is so differently written to her other works which I love, where merrick is focused more on one singular character and the actions they’re taking in the story rather then their back story. I enjoyed Merrick a lot as a character and her being an old line of mayfairs, her ties to ancient witchcraft and the first type ever known and practiced in the times of Noah’s ark. I loved the descriptions of the Jade artefacts, the shrines and the jungles, the book creates an amazing atmosphere of heat and warmth and it feels like you’re in the jungle discovering the runes and caves with them. I also enjoyed the mystery of honey in the sunshine and cold Sandra. I also liked Louis and David character changes and way of talking when we see them from Merrick casting a love spell, it added more to the story for me and how much of a threat Merrick can actually be, I thought the ending of merrick was also very good and closed off the book well. The standout moments for me were Claudia’s spirit and her presence being constantly in the background and a presence constantly felt and the scenes of merrick when she was younger and showing how powerful she already was, her commanding and talking to the python to wrap around her body and sleep is my favourite from those younger years. Overall I’d recommend this book if you enjoy the way Anne writes about spirits and witches, and have some knowledge on witch craft. And if you enjoy very deep descriptions of jungles, and the New Orleans swamps which Merrick describes so vividly and beautifully.

It read like a journal, like David is telling / writing these entries.

Takes place in Louisiana but also you travel to the Jungle, so that was interesting. I also like how the Author mentions the Mayfair witches and Claudia makes an appearance too.

It was a nice read, overall.

(Forgive how this reads because this was a voice text). I don't think the best of Anne and her writings. I don't think she is bad I just think she is so wordy that it makes the story boring. Also, the characters in this book are terrible. Or at least the main character is terrible.
And the fact that he is in multiple books after this is kind of annoying. He does have problems like inappropriate relationships with younger people despite his geriatric age and in a previous novel, he body jumped into an Indian man who was much younger, and it's very weird because he's British and colonization jumps into my head.
