Genuinely such a fun read! I really enjoyed it. If you like fanfiction…this one is for you.
Spoiler It definitely gets more serious and honestly a little scary near the end bc the mc’s are outed but the book is pretty fast-paced so it moves on quickly.

After the last book I low key hated I kinda needed something to fix my reading mood so I grabbed this (lol reading this while the coronation of a new british king was happening was lowkey funny). It's lighthearted fun. I don't feel i will be obsessed with it like the others. Will not think it to be top 10 best lgbt books or anything. The comparisons to Young Royals now feel a bit insulting to young royals since I feel like they've been handling the topic better. Like it's clearly a book that's written in reaction to 2016 election. If it was straight I would call it trashy romance book but of course because it's gay that's a level that elevates it.  I enjoyed it a lot but just don't consider it some great quality of writing.
In any case it did it's job. It did what it was supposed to do

It’s funny, very quippy, it’s got some cute moments, and the characters are like able enough. I enjoyed seeing the relationship come together, but after I got about 3/4s of the way through it sat untouched on my desk for weeks because, ultimately, I didn’t care enough about the story or the characters to see what happens to them.

One of the better romance novels I've read! I found the characters lovable and their lives as political and public figures believable. I also appreciated McQuiston's seamless incorporation of queer history.

Another really well done lovers-to-enemies. I honestly thought I wouldn’t like this book but it is incredibly sweet and satisfying. It’s LGBTQ+ and incorporates politics into a story about an America that could be. I wish this was a historical fiction about what actually happened after Obama left office instead of what actually transpired. The story is fun and sexy even if it’s completely impossible to imagine actually happening.

this book, *chefs kiss*

an unlikely romance filled with comedy. i cannot get over how funny this book was. the characters have wit which makes this book 100x better. kinda nervous for the movie adaptation but as long as the actors are exactly how i picture the characters and the film follows the book nearly word for word, i think i will like it :)

i had my brother read this book and he loved it. i think his favorite line was
Spoiler “obtuse fucking asshole”
or
Spoiler “come on you backyard-shooting-range motherfuckers”
