i'm so glad i've FINALLY gotten around to reading this book!

i thought it was adorable. alex & henry are adorable. i also adore the women of this book so much. june, nora, bea all truly deserve the world.

i do wish this book was faster in the beginning. it feels like it started off slow and then picked up a lot of speed towards the end instead of having one even pace. i also think rafael luna did not deserve forgiveness. i do not like him. i sympathize with his backstory but good lord i wish alex and his family didn't forgive him. it didn't make any sense to me.

overall, i would recommend this book mostly for the romance.

It's a cute book I guess? There were a few things that made my rating what it is currently:

  • Billing something as "enemies to lovers" but a) having them fall in love fairly early in the book and b) they don't really hate each other so much as Alex had some weird pent up gripes about Henry
  • Don't flog me for this, because I'm not saying authors can't, but it felt off seeing a white person write a biracial person and then said biracial person only really brings up his poc side sometimes. Plus the occasional Spanish nicknames somehow felt out of place?? I don't know how to explain it. It's like the slightly off way Monique Grant was written in Evelyn Hugo.
  • I believe this is the author's first work. When compared to One Last Stop (and I understand One Last Stop had fewer opportunities for intimate scenes given the occasional subway setting), RWRB had so many more sex scenes? I'm not a prude but there was so much more compared to the next work which was a sapphic relationship.. (I'm also not saying that RWRB had too many like I'm some sort of prude)
  • Again, white author writing the poc as one dimensional support characters, even if they were very fun and funny.
