Beautiful in it's simplicity. I love the Miah/Ellie story and this did not seem like a contrived sequel. Another quick, powerful read from Woodson.

From the start the base of my skull started tingling in anticipation for all the emotion that was already flooding my way, as once again, I found from the start, that Woodson's writing was so poetic and beautiful, giving tribute to the lyrical prose of its inspiration, Romeo and Juliet.
I'm glad we got different perspectives in this. It helped to give a more rounded, fuller picture... and in so doing, made it all the more painful.
Interesting to see Kennedy's perspective, especially when he got mad at Ellie. And I loved the growing friendship between Carlton, Ellie and Kennedy.
I wasn't really expecting povs from Miah, but they were beautiful. So touching and wise from a young character.
Also again I seemed to correspond with the time I started reading it with the same time in the book. End of September. Funny how that happens sometimes.
Anway, I can't leave this review without saying that I needed this. Both in the way that the last book ended too abruptly left me needing that closure, which this sequel provided and explored so beautifully, but also on a more personal level. It gave me some beautiful thoughts that settled me a little more in my grief, as well as left me to ponder on thoughts of the afterlife and what your loved ones leave you (memories etc) when they pass on from this world.
It was beautiful random glad I read it pretty soon after If You Come Softly.
Pick up give it a go and enjoy! >(^_^)<

i had a little bit of a hard time with this one. it changes very often with who is telling their part and that just threw me off. i didn't read the book that came before this one so i was a little lost on what was going on at first. it was a decent read but i would probably read the one before it first before reading this one.

After reading If You Come Softly, the companion to this book, I was left with an empty box of tissues and a broken heart. The story of Ellie and Miah was so real and deep. I was pleased with how it ended and was surprised to learn of a sequel. However, I immediately bought the book on my e-reader and finished it within a few hours.
Behind You had me tearing up from the first few pages and I didn't stop until well after i had finished the book. I am so glad that a friend told me about the sequel because it has made the list of my all time favorites now. :)
I loved how Woodson told part of the story from Miah's point of view as well. It was so heartbreaking watching Miah deal with leaving behind those that he loves, so that he too can be happy.
Overall, I feel that this book was definitely worth reading if you have read If You Come Softly.

God bless the OWLs because I don't think I'd have read these novels if the random number hadn't picked them, but now they're going on my favourites list.
