There are few story lines that can hook and surprise me, but this did both. Set in the not so distant future, both a researcher at an arctic astronomy center and the crew of a space mission lose contact with the rest of Earth. How they deal with the unknown is beautiful and harrowing. One of my new favorite books.

So this book is the film Gravity meets Station Eleven, but way less plotty than the latter. It's mostly rumination and observation because pretty much nothing happens. It's powerful and I can see why so many people love it but it's also boring at times and the writing is often great but sometimes crap. This is not a typical read for me so my review is not really important. If you're a fan of literary post-apocalyptic fiction and loved Station Eleven/Clade/Gold Fame Citrus then this is for you for sure. I was in the mood for something much plottier and relating to the world I live in, you know the one where there are more than ten people alive.

A good concept and well executed story that you will become immersed and invested in. The writing isn’t the best, but the story telling is good enough that you don’t often notice this. The story meditates on connection, purpose, family, and meaning in life. An enjoyable read!

I picked this because of the cover with a tent and stars. Interesting book that I enjoyed as a quick read. Still contemplating what the ending means...

Full disclosure: I did not finish this book, I quit reading at 55%. The two story threads did not hold my attention, and although the writing was beautiful and the descriptions amazing, there simply was not enough happening to make me willing to spend the required time to finish the book.
This ebook was given to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really would’ve liked to finish this book, but after having gotten 54% of the way through it, it was still so slow and missing crucial information that it just didn’t interest me enough to continue. The concept is really an intriguing one and I would’ve liked to see it fleshed out further, but there comes a point where slow pacing needs to pick up in the book and I just feel like this didn’t happen.
