4.0

Eva Illouz engages in the tradition of critical theory and considers the emergence and commoditization of the psychological self through the introduction of self-help and psychoanalysis in the 20th century. She examines emotional capitalism and its effects on the workplace, the marriage, and dating in the age of the internet.

Illouz is clear and poignant and this work is an applicable framework to a lot of historical problems in the United States.
