I have never read or listened to a story by Edgar Allan Poe so I decided to test out the waters with one of his well-known short stories and I'm not disappointed. From understanding the context of the story I thought It would be best for the story to be experienced for the first time through an audiobook, and I was very right. The Narrator's performance of an unhinged unstable man trying to sound sane was top-notch even for the audiobook being so short it was a well-written story conveying a man's spiral through his insanity and failing to control his subconscious guilt of murder.

I liked it the tell tale heart is definitely my favourite from Edgar Allan Poe. But there are more stories in the book like the fall of the house of Usher and the cask of amontillado. The first one I also liked the second one I didn't.

⋆。‧˚ʚ♡ɞ˚‧。⋆ Ah, Edgar Allen Poe, je t'aime!! I love all of his work so much, it started when I read "The Raven" for school and fell In love with his unique style, description, and voice. This was really short, but I was in the mood for a nice short-story because I'm not finishing Once Upon A Broken Heart until tomorrow, because then I have a road trip and really will need a good book. Anyways, I love Edgar's portrayal of mental illness/madness, and how it takes over the brain. I do feel like the beating heart was a metaphor for the narrator's guilt eating him away inside after what he'd done - but I'm not sure yet. I need to read someone else's interpretation. Anyways, this book taught me what "death watch beetles" were and the superstition behind them which was such cool morbid history. I have to read more Poe!

⋆。‧˚ʚ♡ɞ˚‧。⋆ I have no critiques, personally.

Super quick read, didn’t even expect it going in but I kinda zoomed through the audiobook and felt my heart racing in just a few pages. Really insane how Poe could manage to capture such tension in just 14 minutes and all read by Mathew Gray Gubler ◡̈

Probably not as scary as it might have been at the time. Still, it's weirdly unsettling and absolutely timeless in that respect. The prose has the strange power to make the story feel more dead and more alive simultaneously.
