This took me just under a month to read, which is longer than normal to be honest. But that is most definitely not because I didn’t enjoy it! I loved this book, it was exciting and kept me reading even when I felt it was dragging.

I loved the side characters a lot in this book: Miriam, Marcus, Ysabeau and Sophie, probably more than Matthew and Diana. They were good characters but I felt at times they played into the star crossed lovers a bit too much.

The storyline was great and I can see how there is going to be so much to explore in the next few books and I’m really excited to get reading them.

Like 3.5 stars. Super slow beginning and almost wanted to DNF it but happy I didn’t.

Intriguing storyline and lovable wordlbuilding and magic system.
Some aspects troubled me though:
  • the fact that they only knew each other for a month and decided to stay rogether forever
  • the possessiveness from Matthew
  • the very unreasonable fact that she dismissed her magic (it annoyed me)
  • that the book was kinda sectioned and not really one continuous storyline. It seemed like she wrote each scene seperate from eachother
  • the length (you could have easily shortened the book by 200 pages)
  • the overly expressed magic from Diana (i am special and not like other girls)
