This was EXACTLY what I wanted it to be. By far my favorite of the series.

I mostly just read this to finish out the series since I only had one book left. This series had a few good moments, but overall I find it rather bland. I wanted to love it, but I found myself being bored a lot of the time.

my reading slump definitely effected my overall rating of this book - the reading experience was kind of disjointed and weird but overall such a lovely and fitting conclusion to the series. i love a theatre mystery!!! and that epilogue <33 charlotte and jamie nobody is doing it like them!!!

Ok. I really, really wish that I could say I loved this book. In truth, it was ok. It holds a special place in my heart for finishing off the series but, the ending was not what I expected nor, what I wanted. I loved how most of the story went. I started having problems near the end of the story. The process of revealing the culprits was abrupt and unexpected. I didn't like the way everything was revealed. The ending also seemed to be sudden. I did not like the way the story concluded. I was expecting a much different ending. It was still a good way to end the story but, it was not the conclusion that I wanted so, I am a little bitter ;). I would still recommend this for anyone who has read the rest of the series because it does tie up all the loose ends from before.

got more thoughts than usual because I basically read this whole series in a week lol and read this one in a day.

a classic murder mystery! I really enjoyed the overall plot of this one, it felt very reminiscent of the best sherlock mysteries, as well as Poirot, which I love. as opposed to the last book, I actually enjoyed having charlottes perspective throughout this. I was a bit nervous because the fun is not knowing what she’s thinking when she’s solving mysteries. but she thought so fast and about so many different things that the mystery element was upheld quite effectively.

I also liked the new cast of characters and the fact that we were dealing with people all of the same age. however, I think a bit more expansion was needed after the ending, especially to do with Theo and the aftermath.

One thing I disliked in this one was that it fell into one of my least favourite traps - it was clearly written by an American author despite being from a British person's perspective. You can tell so much more with this book and it bothered me a lot more - probably because it’s from charlottes perspective and she’s fully British, as opposed to Jamie who’s half American. some examples I can deal with because it just comes with the territory (using fall instead of autumn for instance) but some made my eyes roll (implying that Oreos can only be bought in international shops as though they’re some American delicacy and not a very popular biscuit you can find in Tesco).

I didn’t enjoy the epilogue as much as the rest of the book. I assume that this is the final one, and it sort of left a lot of things unresolved, especially their relationship, in a way that felt far too open-ended. definitely would have appreciated more clarity on their thoughts and feelings towards each other. I’ll also say that it seems that what they were planning would just end up in them hating each other as it did before so… not exactly a well-rounded up conclusion. it kind of felt like the author had their own idea of what they wanted to happen, but didn’t want to put anything definitive just in case.

overall, I did really like this book and enjoyed how it wasn’t connected to the overarching plot of the first three (excluding character development). it felt like a fun add-on. but I think if it had been left at the third book that would have given a more satisfying but still open-ended conclusion. I'll miss this series and it's characters :(

edit: changed the rating slightly (lowered to 3.5 stars), just on further reflection there were lots of things that were never explained or felt rushed, but i still liked this book and really like this series!

Something felt off about this story, and it wasn't until I was a bit into the book that I realised this story was from Charlotte's POV, instead of Jamie's. The previous three books were all (mostly) from Jamie's POV with an occasional chapter from Charlotte in between (iirc).

That being said, I did enjoy this book and the mystery that they had to solve in this, but I think it's just been too long since I've read the previous three. I really should have read this way sooner. Still, I'm happy I have another series finished!

SpoilerAlso I totally knew August wasn't truly dead! I kept thinking to myself 'nah, he's out there somewhere' and I WAS RIGHT. Kind of wish they had spoken to each other, but I also get why that didn't happen.
