I read this book for a Children’s Literature course, and I think it was adorable. We used it in class to demonstrate close reading. My review will focus on things that I noticed about the story, rather than what the class discussed. Overall, I think Staying Home did a great job of demonstrating the chaos and new rules for families that are working or doing school from home.

Parents are tired, and kids are full of energy. It’s hard to find balance. This story also provides useful tips and examples of things such as social distancing and handwashing. The artwork is cute and very well suited for children. I think this book also shines a light on all the different things you can do at home to keep things interesting and that some kids are very excited to be home while others aren’t.

The last page discusses the importance of essential workers, but also how important it is for people to stay home as well. Everyone has to do their part to protect each other. I think this is a great book, and it was brilliant of these women to write this and provide it as an ebook for quick and easy distanced access for families.
