This book was fine but it was so overhyped in the reviews I read as being super suspenseful and keeping you on the edge of your seat that I was disappointed. It wasn’t super scary or suspenseful at all but the writing is good enough, just not my fav.

2.5 stars. ahhh this started out so great!!!! the premise and whole idea was amazing, but unfortunately i don’t think there was enough substance to sustain a full length novel. the beginning was great, i was feeling truly uneasy reading about Wen and Leonard’s first interaction in chapter 1. but then it quickly becomes so repetitive that it was tiring. the pacing was so off, and it just felt like nothing happened for the entirety of the middle of the book. i think it could translate well to screen though, so i’m definitely interested in the movie.

A good horror novel - a bit more brutal and gruesome than expected, but I moved through it quickly, pushed on my growing tension and uncertainty.

Thrilling and depressing. I was waiting for a climatic ending, but alas the reader is left to end the story in their own way.

What did I just read because it was nothing short of completely brilliant, brutal, and completely heart-wrenching?! The writing is incredible and the characters are vividly realized and very real in so many ways. Paul Tremblay you mad, heart-centered, terrifying genius. A real knockout and emotional gut punch. "Thank you"
