3.5 stars? I get both the hype and the criticism. But I’m net glad I read it

Kept me reading, sometimes laughing, sometime looking over my shoulder.....

Sometimes a footnote referenced a book that seemed too perfect to be real and yet it was. Other times, really interested in looking up a volume, only to discover it does not exist.

Loved the orientation of the text for Exploration 5.

Not sure what I am supposed to get out of it, nevertheleff an interesting read.

Sounds like a winning concept, but turns out to be tedious and sleep-inducing. Made it 20 pages. Moderne novel aoubt an imaginary movie about an expanding house. For a good moderne book about a strange, possibly fictitious movie, read Charlie Kaufman's Antkind. For a good moderne book about an endlessly large structure, read Susanna Clarke's Piranesi.

I found this book immensely boring, overambitious and contrived. It took considerable willpower to get to the 25% mark in it, and when even then it did not begin fulfilling on its page-turner promise I finally gave up on it. I felt that the author came up with an interesting idea about a physically impossible house and a separate idea about wacky formatting, and then just jammed the two ideas together, with a sprinkle of dry technical datasheet style documentation about both interspersed throughout. Yes, I understand that the formatting is meant to give us the same experience as the inhabitants of the house had, but it was so gimmicky and made it all a colossal hassle. He didn't even attempt to write well, thinking that the formatting will more than make up for it.

This book is intensely unique, and as with its characters it suggests to the reader that further insight is always possible with time and devotion.

I was left awestruck by many of the clever details in the writing, and I look forward to seeing what people online have put together.

Simply fascinating!
