If I thought Soma grew a lot in the last volume...then I don't know what to call what he did in this one! It was amazing to watch/read through his learning throughout. And to get that little glimpse of how the other characters were doing in their placements. I was really glad Megumi stepped out of the kitchen.

From Iron Chef to Kitchen Nightmares to ... Hell's Kitchen!
😈🍴
Souma is learning all about French cuisine and how to work in a busy restaurant that serves "course" (prix fixe) meals. It's a lot different for him since he's used to cooking different things to order. Also the kitchen runs differently and is encouraged to be efficient and ... quiet. (That's another mark against them from Ramsay - no communication!)

This is a super short arc but it was enjoyable! I think I just wanted something that wasn't the autumn election cooking battles. I like seeing Souma's growth as a chef and the different challenges he's forced to face.

Its time for the second trial in a 4 week event for the freshmen.

The first week Soma was in a team, this time he's on his own at the restaurant of one of the former students.

Will he pass the test?

This volume has an interesting content as the main focus is about Soma finding his own direction and specialty instead of randomly cooking whatever he wants. He starts to find out his own weaknesses and trying his best to overcome them. He tries to understand his own limitations and searching for a specialty that he can master with it.

This installment made me so happy. Once again Soma is challenged but this time he can't rely on his ability to improvise at the last moment to get him through it. Soma takes it upon himself to use this opportunity to learn everything he can. Not only does Soma gain new insight into the importance knowing different techniques but he also gains a drive to make his cooking represent him.
