This wasn’t bad, it was just a bit slow paced and boring. I didn’t find myself invested in the stakes.

I know it’s her first book, and I know what she’s become as an author, but man do I love the way V.E Schwab crafts words, even as a senior in college. No notes

I was a fan of V.E. Schwab prior to this book and it served to fan the flames. The unfolding of the mysterious new stranger was very well told, and the ending tied up any lingering questions. A very fun, if slightly dark, read.

Written in a gripping way, with stories as a big part of the narrative and characters - mystery surrounding most parts of the story, including history, characters, magic, and the main plot which all made for an intriguing read
Character motivations are easily understood adding to the characterisation with their personalities
The short story at the end adds further context to the story and one character, making them more fascinating on reflection
An easy, gripping read all in all with a mystery and tense atmosphere throughout

This was my first book I’ve read by V.E. Schwab, and I gotta say, I look forward to reading more by her. I really enjoyed this story and recommend it.
