This has become my favorite B.A. Paris book since Behind Closed Doors. The story line is intense and at one point or another, I don't believe any of the characters except Alice escaped my suspicion.

This book was definitely a rollercoaster! It was the perfect book to kick off my book club for the fall!
I have read another book by B.A. Paris before (behind closed doors) and it was good, but nothing compared to this. I think where that one fell was the ending. This one kept me guessing the entire way through and had a satisfactory ending as well.
I found myself writing down notes and jotting down theories on who the therapist could be, especially figuring out the connection between all of the past chapters.
This was an amazing read!

I’ve said lately that I’ve been enjoying the bored-suburban-white-woman-investigates-a-crime genre. This one was really good. I was guessing all the way until the end.

Two problems with this book. 1. Why does Alice have to be another stupid woman? 2. This story would be more believable if it takes place before the Internet. Want to know about your neighbors? Google their name and check out their social media accounts.

Thank you NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I want to preface this review by saying B.A. Paris is an auto-buy author for me. I love her writing style and I thoroughly enjoy her books. That being said, this wasn't my favourite. It wasn't bad, I just had a hard time buying some key elements of the story.
The biggest one is Alice as a whole, given her anxiety and paranoia throughout the book, her complete lack of self-preservation instinct is alarming! I won't say too much for the sake of spoilers but the mental gymnastics someone would have to do to continue to put themself at that level of risk made her decision-making completely absurd.
The next big one is Nina's behaviour, for someone who is meant to be a Therapist she behaves precisely in the opposite manner than that which a Therapist should behave. People can make poor choices but anyone who has watched even one episode of the bazillion crime shows would have had alarm bells blaring, never mind a trained mental health professional.
I'm also having trouble understanding how Oliver was able to be like a son to the neighbours given their situation!
This book wasn't bad, but it wasn't great! It would be a good read for someone who just wants to be taken along for the ride. For those thriller readers, like myself, who critically assess as you read in hopes of figuring out how it all is going to play out - you may find yourself a little disappointed with what I can only call lazy storytelling. Had Paris put a little more effort into working out the gaps in the story it could have been better.

I was ahead of my reading schedule until this book. I am not 4 books behind. So painfully slow. Twists were not expected yet also not exciting. I didn’t connect or engage with any of the characters. I don’t know why I continued to read it. Usually with thriller the end is worth it? It wasn’t with this one.

DNF. I just could not get into the book and I’m trying not force myself to read books I don’t like. Will update if I read in the future.
