I don't know what to do with this one. On one hand, CoHo's writing is on point (as always) in this book. On the other hand, I just can't with the story...

This book is beyond different from any CoHo book you'll ever read. I love that she keeps testing her boundaries and dipping her toes in areas we never thought she would. This "ghost" story is definitely one I never pictured her writing. With that being said, it's hard to reconcile the story and characters, at least for me.

The story itself is just weird. I don't know if it's a good or bad weird. But it's weird, and it had me scratching my head throughout the whole book. It flows well. I didn't have a hard time grasping what was going on, except when I wasn't supposed to. The mystery of the mystery in this one was just too far fetched for me.

The characters.... Let me just say, I despised the main character completely from start to finish. He just dug himself deeper and deeper throughout the whole book. For me, there was no redeeming him. He's creepy. He's despicable. I couldn't like him at all. I know I wasn't supposed to like him, but CoHO tried to redeem him and it didn't work for me.

That leads me to the ending. It was the only way the book could end on a positive note, however it didn't work. It was rushed and completely unbelievable. I saw it coming, but it just didn't work. I think, for me, this is a book where it didn't really call for the HEA we come to know and love from this author.

Like I said before, the book is extremely well written. This one just wasn't one for me. There were too many things that didn't speak to me. I really want to love this one, but I just can't. I will give CoHo props for that though. I haven't stopped thinking about this book for days.

This was such an interesting read considering I haven’t read a lot of paranormal romance or romance in itself. While it definitely wasn’t perfect, I feel confident giving this book a 4/5 stars. The thing that really got me with this one was how Colleen Hoover really makes you feel the intense emotion between Layla and Leeds. I recommend for sure!

Rating it so highly because 1. I was gripped. 2. Although everything is so questionable and I said wtf multiple times, the way it’s been written is incredible. You are constantly feeling different ways about each and every character and at times I questioned myself for my opinions.  You feel sorry for characters you shouldn’t feel sorry for, like characters you don’t want to like. I liked Willow but I didn’t want to like Willow because I felt so bad for Layla. This is the same way Leeds felt. Leeds was drawn to Willow but was then feeling bad for what he was doing to Layla, but not enough to stop wanting answers and she makes us feel the same way with him. I grew to like Willows personality even though I didn’t like what they were doing to Layla, and at some points of the book I saw their similar personalities but the reason for them being so similar didn’t come to us because it was such a complicated plot and not to mentioned f*ck*d up plot. It did leave me questioning afterlife too ahah. I just think this was a clever plot to come up with even if I feel so bad for Layla still (body layla not spirit) even now I know the truth. At the end you want to dislike the body Layla, and you feel bad for everything she’s been put through and the fear she must have, but you want that happy ending and the justice. Crazy book.
