I found this so boring. I feel like I miss the point sometimes with translated fiction, particularly Japanese and Korean. Things almost feel disjointed, and also generally absurd. Im sure im just not grasping meanings properly but I couldn’t continue forcing myself to read it.

I loved this book so much. It's a challenging and philosophical story. I'm just a little confused about the "magic system".

Review: I have read a few books this year that center around death and/or deals with "The Devil". This book was somewhat reminiscent of Addie Larue or Before The Coffee Runs Cold, only more of a quick read and a little less on the emotional side. Overall, I did enjoy it. I think the most poignant parts were in the self-reflection near the end, especially in the interactions with Cabbage.

This is a pretty short and quick read. As such, there's less time to get to know our main character and become emotionally invested in his life or death. The relationship with the cat and the memories and feelings around that are what really help this book. Still, it felt a bit unfinished or like it could have stood to push the emotions a bit more.

What do you do when you find out that you only have one week to live? Well, you make a deal with a devil named Aloha, of course. But, remember, “In order to gain something, you have to lose something.” 5-stars!
