So fun to see new stories in the Death Note world, and seeing that panel of Ryuk handing Trump the Death Note will never not be funny.
Taro's story was probably the weakest but still interesting, and the four panel comics were quite fun, genuinely loved the ones about Ryuk being more human than Shinigami.

Super fun prequel/sequel to the original series. Loved the bits about L’s life. Plus it’s short so I finished it the same day I bought it.

this was rly fun! it's a (dreadful kind of) joy to be back in the world of death note again, seeing how old characters have changed or havent, and introduced to a new, particularly riveting one.
as usual, it's a rollicking ride where the game of wits and intelligence make me feel smarter just reading them. the a kira story is my fav w/ how ingeniously plotted it is, though the ending pains me nevertheless. obata's art, as always, is effective, layered and oft a feast for the eyes. goddamn i love this series.

I enjoyed these short stories. It seemed very plausible that this could happen in a post-Kira world. I was so bummed when Tanaka Minoru died. Like, he was so smart and he deserved his cash. Economics king. And those two poor kids! I really hope they stay alive. All of this so Ryuk can get his apples. It was also nice to see Near again and the other main characters in the humorous panels.

Like its name suggests, Death Note Short Stories is a collection of short stories from the Death Note universe. I don’t know how it is in other languages, but a third of the German edition was already published in the 13th volume of the main series and this feels kinda like a cash-grab. I also can repeat here what I said for my review of Another Note: Those supplementary materials are probably only interesting for great fans of the Death Note series and I’m not one of those anymore. Even though I have my critiques with the contents, I really liked the design and layout for this book.
L-Kira
I was not the greatest fan of this short story. Apparently, years have passed but the character designs look almost the same and the art style in general was just not great. It was interesting to get to know more about Wammy’s house though, but the story ended too abruptly.
A-Kira
The general idea of this short story was interesting: The main character tried to find a peaceful solution to the Death Note conflict by selling it through the internet. This was an interesting usage of the internet for the story and gave some ideas how Death Note’s story may’ve been differently if it was written today. I also liked how he decided to split the money to all members of the Yotsuba bank and the portrayal of Trump was funny . My only problem with the story is that the priced becomes absurdly high, even though there is no evidence that the Death Note is real.
But again, I noticed that the art looks not that good. Black and white were not well balanced on the pages and black was used way too extensively. The teeth of the characters looked kinda unsettling, and Near’s new design looked so terrible. Talking about Near, in the scenes he’s in, he’s just passive and does nothing.
Coming to the last (really) short stories: L – One Day had a kinda absurd story while L – The Wammy’s House was a bit cute, but both were nothing special.

The short stories of the Little Kiras were entertaining, a little sad, and, more importantly, great additions to the Death Note storyline.
Seeing L again filled me with joy, and his a-day-in-the-life story was funny but not surprising. I wish they delved more into his origins, but L is an enigma. It makes sense to keep it that way.
It says a lot that they had Trump purchase the Death Note lol. And the end of this Little Kira’s short story shows the Death Note’s misfortune shows no prejudice towards its owners, no matter how its used.
The appearance of the Death Note eraser is an interesting (and innocent) choice.
