Joel Dicker is one of my favourite authors, I've read his last three books and I can't say how much I enjoyed them. Then I read The Enigma of Room 622.

I won't accept this is written by the same person. The tone of the book is all over the place. You won't care if the characters live or die. The conceits to drive the plot are lame and quite frankly you won't give a shit about them either. I think some of it is meant to be funny, perhaps like a farce, but the author CANNOT do humour. It just comes across like everyone is a complete fuckwit.

I feel for the guy who had to translate this book into English; imagine having to comb through this simmering shite over and over. No one should have to suffer like that.

A simplistic, little soap opera. Two guys competing for a top position at a private bank. One having an affair with the other's wife. The other working for the government's secret service is a way that gets him into trouble with the company. Oh, yeah, then, in their future, two idiots investigating a murder in a hotel. They overlap, but I didn't care enough to read far enough in to find out who was killed. Yawn.

Again, couldn't put it down, I'm crazy about this author's writing. But, again, very implausible situations. Still, I was madly in love with the characters, one way or the other.

3.5 ⭐️ It was good but pretty convoluted. I lost my patience with the frequent shifts in timeframe. It is a long book, and it felt long while reading it.
