A harrowing book to read. There were times it was difficult to get through, but overall it was a fascinating book. So much information. So much I didn't know about WWII.

This book was amazing. Very well written and detailed. I felt like I was learning so much about the history of World War II and the Holocaust. The personal stories were fascinating and I walked away with a much more realistic understanding of what people went through and how this happened in history. Now watching the BBC docu-series on Netflix as well.

This book was a detailed, fascinating account of the history (political, social, and economic) of the infamous Auschwitz camp. The author wove the facts of history in a gripping narrative that did not read like a dry history text. The levels of detail and personal accounts help to make the unfathomable a bit more understandable.

Sehr empfehlenswert.

I really thought that I would be reading this novel for some time. However, that was not the case.

I flew through this book. The information within these pages...I honestly feel this needs to be a compulsatory read.

This novel felt different to me from other accounts of what transpired as it told the story from all angles and views. However hard those were to read, the words and the actions that took place need to be remembered. The horrors of the past cannot be repeated.

Even though there is only 6 chapters in this book, each is though provoking, horrifying and also at times full of hope.

I will never truly understand this period and what transpired no matter how much literature I read. However, the world needs to remember and hold themselves accountable for their individual actions within this global world.

Highly recommend this book.

I had to put this book down every 20 pages, not because it was bad but because Rees describes the horrors of Auschwitz so vividly. He went into the many complexities of life at Auschwitz both for prisoners and the SS, as well as describing the social and political culture of Germany before and after the war. Very sad, but educational and still relevant today.
