Brilliant follow on from the first book and was great to get Helene’s additional POV. Didn’t expect that.

I’m hoping there will be Marcus and Keris’s POV soon.. they’re such interesting characters that I’d love to get to know.

Overall the book felt slower than the first and a little more convoluted than what it could have been. The explanations and “plot twists” are totally worth it though.

This story isn't sticking with me, but it's still a fun read. I really adore the characters and the journey they're on.

“Don't look so worried. Most successful missions are just a series of barely averted disasters.”

Laia and Elias are on a run.
The Blood Shirke hunts them down.
The rivers run warm with blood and the Empire is in a state of havoc.
Infiltrating the Kauf is difficult, but it is not impenetrable and the Embers know that.

Kinda boring and predictive. The first book was a thousand times better. I'm really disappointed that it got so unoriginal

"The rest is just wishes and hope, the most fragile of things"

Hooolly guacamole.... I'm shook. Loved this one just as much as [b:An Ember in the Ashes|27774758|An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1)|Sabaa Tahir|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1449158871s/27774758.jpg|39113604]. My feelings about Helene changed completely. I loved her point of view. Can't wait to get to know her better.
When I read, I usually tend to predict some parts of the book. But [a:Sabaa Tahir|7770873|Sabaa Tahir|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1390501945p2/7770873.jpg] books are different. I just can't and don't even try to predict them, because I know I'll fail miserably. When I started reading, I couldn't stop and pages just turned by themselves. I dived in to a brutal empire full of fantasy, mythical creatures, amazing characters and places. And that's why I love it.
After I read [b:An Ember in the Ashes|27774758|An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1)|Sabaa Tahir|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1449158871s/27774758.jpg|39113604], the story stuck to me for a whole nother month. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I feel like it's going to be the same with this one too.
I can't say anything bad about this book, so it's 5 stars to me.

"Because sane plans never work, girl," she says. "Only the mad ones do."

"Failure doesn't define you. It's what you do after you fail that determines whether you are a leader or a waste of perfectly good air."
