This is definitely the most intense entry of the series so far. There's been fighting in the other two books, of course, but no permanent casualties. It did surprise me that two of the main characters were killed off - though I did sort of guess it would happen, since they were also introduced in this book. I barely knew Bianca or Zoe, but their deaths definitely got to me; Zoe's a bit more than Bianca's. But Nico's reaction to finding out was just heartbreaking. At this point, I feel like I'm definitely getting into the meat of the story, which is exciting. More major characters are being introduced, and everything feels so much more high-stakes now. As far as minor things go, I like the incorporation of "fatal flaws" into the concept, since they were always a huge player in classic mythology (plus Percy finding out what his is). It's a neat detail. Great series so far!rinku's review against another edition

Thalia seemingly killing Luke was such an epic moment, even though he’s not really dead. Them defeating Atlas was so amazing as well, just like Annabeth’s dad saving the day. In contrast, Zoe’s death was so sad and not so emotionless like Bianca’s death, where I first thought it would the same thing like with TysonSpoiler
it’s a bit sad that Bianca, Thalia, and Zoe are all gone at the end. They were all such great strong female characters and I wished they would’ve stayed for longer. I also feel so sorry for Nico and wonder what will happen next now that we know that he’s Hades sonGraphic: Death

The improvement of the heroes relationship with their parents. But I kinda wanted more Annabeth and Percy moments. I also was kinda sad they didn’t include the day Thalia came back, like como on I wanted to know the backstory. Also, Bessie is the bestGraphic: Violence
