This collection of lectures and writings offer some really interesting black lesbian feminist insights. It helped me see and understand experiences and perspectives that I had never heard about. Audre Lorde is a provocative writer and I’m sure she stirs a revolutionary spirit amongst her wider audience.

hesitantly rating bc i think i'd need to do a second read to rate it appropriately - got a lot out of it but also a lot that went over my head/would benefit from a deeper, second read. really interesting to read more from a black lesbian perspective.

Ja jums dzīvē ir laiks tikai vienai grāmatai par rasismu, tad iesaku šo - amerikāņu rakstnieces, dzejnieces, feministes un tiesību aizstāves Audre Lorde eseju izlasi. Ja līdz šim man labākā grāmata par tēmu šķita [b:Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race|33606119|Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race|Reni Eddo-Lodge|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1497293578l/33606119._SY75_.jpg|54425062], tad tagad tā šķiet vien bērna šļupsti vai ļoti laipnā versija priekš 21. gs. sniegpārsliņām.

“The fear that we cannot grow beyond whatever distortions we may find within ourselves keeps us docile and loyal and obedient, externally defined, and leads us to accept many facets of our oppression as women.”

Wszystkie teksty pochodzą z „Siostry Outsiderki,” ale świetnie było je przeczytać w oryginale.

This collection features a short collection of essays on intersectional feminism which can also be found in her novel, Sister Outsider.

Audre Lorde discusses the complex relationship dynamics between black women, black men and women, and the limits within white feminism. Her depiction of the fear, self-hatred and the competitive nature between black women was so profound and gave voice to something so inherent in the black community.

Her writing style is immaculate; I felt both engaged and inspired as I read and I will definitely be reading all of her other novels.
I would highly recommend reading this or sister outsider as I find it essential to understanding feminism from a black, lesbian perspective.

i knew this collection of essays was going to be excellent from the snippets of Audre Lorde i had read before this point, but i don’t think i quite expected it to impact me as much as it did, simply due to the fact that very little ever has.

no essays, lectures, discussions, videos, etc. have been so enlightening to me as this small book, and i feel i’ve not only learnt a great deal, but have come to understand more about the world.

Lorde’s personal narrative is so strong and her ability to connect her experiences to the larger experiences of marginalised groups is astounding. Lorde writes beautifully yet concisely.

I see myself referring back to these essays a great deal in the future.
