the concept of Frank Castle being a mercenary priest is so fucking cool, I just wish we had more stories set in the 1872 'verse to explore everyone better...

This was one of the best series to come out of the Secret Wars event in 2015. The new take on the characters was really interesting and fun. While I didn't quite like the idea of making Tony Stark the town drunk, the relationship between Tony and Sheriff Rogers was fun to read. I enjoyed the use of Natasha and her relationship to the cause as well. I really wish this turned into a longer series.

Although sometimes the characterizations were a tad off -- Bruce saying "Lord have mercy" when, even in 1872, he'd be an atheist and you know it -- this was still awesome.

I've read a few of the Warzones and mostly didn't like them. Largely they have seemed to want to be one offs but still connected to larger themes in the MCU, specifically in this case the latest Secret Wars. Where this series mostly succeeds is that while it's referential in place names, Kirby River is just the tip of the iceberg in this Battleworld western landscape, it feels more separate from the Secret Wars story line. As a result, it can be the western story it is which is a chance for Red Wolf to flourish in a western town populated by a depowered and degeared Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers and Tony Stark in a solid story with great art. This book lead to the criminally short lived Red Wolf comic which also gave us the Occupy Avengers team up of Hawkeye and Red Wolf and feels like a fun patient zero for a historically underused character.

Fun story set in an Old West Marvel-verse. Kingpin runs the town, Steve Rogers is the by-the-book sheriff, Tony Stark is the town drunk. Then there's Bruce Banner, Black Widow, Bullseye, Elektra, and a bunch of others. Plus, cool cameo at the end by Reverend Frank Castle and Wade Wilson.

The description is a little deceptive, but this is still a solid story. The emotional notes were there, and it would actually be fun to come back to this world at some point.

This was much more disturbing than I expected it to be, but I still enjoyed reading it because of the energy and excitement that flowed within its tragedy.

The Western versions of the included characters are fleshed out with many having their own backstories, traumas and details that are recognizable but unique to their altered selves. The plot itself is interesting and dynamic and ends with a few things unresolved so it can be continued further.
