Nice start to the series.

I'm curious to see how Tegan and her sister cope when they discover they are related.

I'm also curious about the soul mates thing. I think this could have done with being longer but that could be because I flew through it.

This would be a five star if there was some more of the coven.  I love the idea behind the cards.  Hoping book 2 gives more about the coven and cards and three theme park (forgot the name)

Decent start to this series. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out. This first book opened up a lot of questions that I hope we get answers to. The quests are interesting and I like watching Tegan come into her own powers. I’m even more interested to see how things work between her and Tennessee

DNF at 15% when we got Tennessee's POV and background on his coven.

I didn't realize this was a YA story, and the whole tarot-based coven and "must find some mysterious locket" quest was a bit too cheesy for my taste.

Nice short read

I did like this and wish it was longer. Left me with a lot of questions and will gladly continue. Easy read that I wanted to finish immediately. Definitely enjoyed this one although I wish the characters had more back story to them. I liked it though and hope to get more attached later on!

2.5 solid witchy stars! The Lost Witch isn’t a bad book and it was actually quite an enjoyable read for me. That being said, it wasn’t as amazing as I thought it would be. TLW follows Tegan and her love interest, Tennessee,on the journey to complete a quest to find a locket. This locket is the Hierophant’s locket. The Hierophant is basically the psychic for the Coven aka a group of witches who each fulfill a place in the Coven based off the Major Arcana in tarot. So this sounds pretty interesting, right? Yes! The only problem was the execution. This book had so much potential but failed at living up to said potential. TLW is a book I enjoyed despite its low rating and I will be continuing the series.

It seemed like Chandelle didn’t understand who her audience was. This book is pretty basic in terms of complexity and I felt that us readers could have handled more. The characters for one could have also handled more. Everything was handed to them on a silver platter and there was hardly any struggle save for the scenes where Tennessee had to save Tegan(more on that later). This book read more as a novella than a full-length novel to kick of the series. Oddly it reminded of Middle Book Syndrome except this was the first book. If the author wanted this to be action packed or complex, she failed with character development and world-building. The plot was bearable but we’ll get to that in a second.

Characters
These characters weren’t fleshed. This book seemed very pantsed to me as if the author went in without knowing exactly who the characters were besides a few traits. The characters were often described as “powerful”, a “firecracker”, or in Royce’s case “gay”. Yeah, that’s a thing. Royce was constantly, in nearly every single chapter, referenced as gay. Uh….yeah. We all know what’s wrong with that but if you don’t: GAY CHARACTERS ARE MORE THAN JUST GAY AND SHOULD BE WRITTEN AS SUCH. Anyhoo, let’s go onto our main characters because everyone else is pretty much irrelevant or the same. Seriously, this entire “quest” could have easily been completed without the rest of the Coven which by the way is mostly teenagers(??? why???).

Tegan, our female MC, isn’t the stronk female uwu character that we usually get. In fact, she’s not afraid to be weak of fear for her life which is refreshing. What annoys me about her is how she is always saved. Much like Clary Fray from the Mortal Instruments, Tegan is just thrown into things and hasn’t been given any training at all. Somehow, she manages to find out tons of clues that help forward the plot and of course, because like every paranormal book ever, she’s a chosen one with tons of power(uwu). Now Tegan, I think, has a lot of potential. I just wished the author developed her more or any of the characters more. They had no passions, interests, or goals outside of the plot nor did they go beyond any traits that were listed on the page. I enjoyed their witty banter and the relationships but they really fell flat for me.

Moving onto our male MC, Tennessee wasn’t all that bad. Except for the part where he is soulmates with Tegan, met her like 2 days ago and has already fallen in love with her. This is why I hate the soulmate trope. It’s a cheap cop out for authors to get straight to the romance instead of developing to romance slowly. Can we end this trope, please? What I did like about the romance and Tennessee, insta-love and all is that it wasn’t toxic. He wasn’t some strong male who was so masculine all the other gentlemales(yes that’s a reference to Sarah J Maas and yes I’m salty) quivered in sight of him. He was gentle and strong and a bit OP but overall an okay character. I didn’t actually hate the romance in one of these books for once.

In short: the characters needed to be developed further, the romance wasn’t that bad, and I’d like to think I enjoyed them. Maybe I will be interested in their storylines should they be fleshed out...

Plot:
The plot was the most disappointing thing of this novel. It fell flat, was rushed, and there was utterly no struggle for the characters. Everything was handed on a silver platter and towards the end wrapped up quickly. If this was simply a novella in between the main stories, I wouldn’t be surprised. Alas, it’s the first novel and a disappointing one at that. It was just too rushed for me. It seemed like it was starting at strong but as we neared the end and the novel was over what I felt was “that was it?”. It just seriously needed help. It wasn’t strong at all not to mention there were a few loose threads that I hoped are cleared up in future novels.

World:
Finally, some good content. The world, while poorly fleshed out and bare bones was exciting. Though it did seem that towards the end, some things were thrown in there and these supposedly powerful witches didn’t even know some of the topics of the world. It wasn't just learning about the world as you go but like seriously these kids who completed quite a few things didn’t know these beings existed. Yeah...So again, the world was barely fleshed out and I blame that on the plot. The plot wasn’t fleshed out and there was no time to lay down the foundation of what we really needed to know so how could we the readers even learn about the world? It has tons of potential and some elements I have not seen before. Also, I think magic was used as a crutch in this world and didn’t really have that many consequences besides“omg you’ll get tired and maybe die but we also have healing magic so no dying just yet!”. So that’s fun. Anyways, the world was my favorite part of this story but just needs to be fleshed out.

So my review may sound like I don’t like this book but I actually do and plan to read the rest of the series. It seems fun, an easy way to keep my GR challenge up, and something I don’t have to fully commit to all while enjoying the benefits of reading a series. TLW had great ideas and amazing elements to it however it seemed the author rushed it. If there’s a future book to come(not including any of those already published) I hope the author sees this and makes the proper corrections to make the other books better. If you enjoyed this book, please give it a like, discuss your thoughts in the comments below, and follow me here on Goodreads for more reviews!
Review TLDR: lots of potential and needs work despite having some good content in it.

I noticed that this was on audible now and wanted to hear what the characters were like in this format. I needed an easy listen while I was working and this delivered. There’s just something about this story. It’s funny and just a good time. I do wish a couple of these books were bundled together for the audiobook format though. Using a whole credit for a less than 6 hour book is hard for me. I get that everyone involved needs to make earnings though.
