The way the 'freak show' is portrayed feels massively ableist - and yes, that is historically correct, but letting disabled readers run into that unprepared is NOT the way to go. Not to mention that among the performers one could have tuned down the ableism.
Also ... I have no idea where this will be going. It's a completely open ending, but also ... it feels like there will be too many plots to follow. Like ... this started as a murder plot, but then too much was added to really get what the comics will be about in the end. For people that really like serials, that might be a good thing. But for me, preferring standalones or series of standalones in the same world, this is a bit of a turn off.

Graphic: Murder
Moderate: Ableism and Religious bigotry

2022 reread:
bumped my rating up from a 4 to a 5. a circus murder mystery where a fake psychic who's been a skeptic all her life suddenly starts seeing the ghost of her sister and has to uncover the cause of her murder?? exactly the type of story i was in the mood for right now. tempted to knock off half a star for ending completely on an abrupt cliffhanger but i'll let it slide.

This was really interesting and unique. Can't wait for the next one!
