4.5 but rounding up.

I really enjoyed this way more than I thought. These characters are amazing. Glokta is, of course, my favorite.

I like such fantasy books where the characters, the politics is given more emphasis than the magic.

Gave a Game of Thrones vibe at times. But in the end, I liked it for its own sake.

Liked Glokta a lot. Why do I this?

Pleasantly surprised by this one! I'd grown to assume it would be fairly generic, but while it wasn't the most unique read in the world I enjoyed it thoroughly.

There are a lot of similarities than can be drawn with LotR and 'A Game of Thrones', but Abercrombie manages to twist the tropes in very fun ways. Love in particular the absolute mystery that still surrounds the magic and history of this setting.

Lots of good characters, though I'm perhaps more interested in the slightly twisted archetypes many represent.

Ferro and Ardee (plus Vitari) are each interesting women in their own rights, but would've liked a more nuanced approach to gender overall. Have some of the Magi, closed council, or even Euz' children be women if you want them to be more than an afterthought in this incredibly patriarchal world.

Still lots to be fascinated by here, and very curious where things will head next. Glad I finally picked this up off my shelf!
