Sensational in every way. I am almost lost for words. I saw a review once that said a lot of people have incredible stories, but not everyone can write an incredible story. Daniella exceeds at sharing her life story in an informative yet enthralling way without oversharing that which deserves to remain private. She expertly uses her own life experience to analyse, draw comparison and critique group behaviour and psychology. Her story is harrowing in every way, but most striking is her conviction in herself from such a young age. It may not have been her intention, but to me this is a story of resilience. For someone to have experienced abuse on the level that she has but has been able to still trust and act on her own judgement is astonishing. I absolutely am in awe of this woman, she is the definition of inspiring and I cannot wait to read all her future work.

I found out about the author via her tiktok account knitting cult lady 

I want it first known i read only the part about the army because I've been encountering a lot of microaggressions lately over the military & i didn't have time to listen to the first 2 parts because of that recent crisis.

This book helped clarify how a lot of these horrible laws such as the no water laws were normalized in the military before they became laws. I often call racial capitalist patriarchy a dictatorship of war rape & the history of plantations bears that out, though she didn't necessarily know USAmerican history before joining.

This was a very difficult read as the content can be very heavy at times but overall this was an amazing and enlightening story of self discovery, perseverance and the dangers of group behaviour in any form.

There is disturbing descriptions about assult, abuse, rape and overall life in cults (both religious and not). These descriptions include extreme harm done to children in these scenarios (this harm was at times sexual in nature). As well as the life long repercussions and continued impacts of that trauma. Depictions of systemic sexism and abuse, as well as suicidal ideation.

A shocking and tough read. An autobiography told with so much honesty and raw detail that makes you feel as if you’re sat down beside the author listening to the recount of her life. An interesting parallel of similarities between her life born into a cult and her life in the military, with a heavy emphasis on the experience of being woman.
