Another skim read I couldn’t get into but also needed to know the end of.

Troy and Charlie become roommates and have to fight their growing love hate relationship. Until they don’t.
There’s OW drama that doesn’t result in anything but a confession. There’s parent dram that you can see coming from a mile off and it’s spread over 50, yes 5.0. painful chapters.

The one star is for the hot moments as they weren’t bad at all.

I picked this book up because I saw the author had special editions coming out and I wanted to see if I liked the books enough to order them. I tried this one, the first in the series, but DNFd it about halfway through.

There was something about the writing, dialogue, and characters that just... irked me. It felt kind of juvenile?

It felt like the FMC gave into the MMC pretty easily because she was mourning the loss of her dog. I was hoping to see more back and forth between these two.

Objectively, this wasn’t a bad story. Typical new-adult sports romance, and I usually eat this shit up. However, the dialogue and a lot of the actions of the characters seemed childish, immature, and cringey. The sex scenes were decent, but the way they acted outside of the bedroom sometimes made me externally cringe. I’ll read the next book in this series and see if the author adapted, but we’ll see what happens I guess.

This was mediocre. I rounded up because Charlie was a LARP playing, board game lover - extra points for geekiness. The book started off with promise but the characters were flat, the storyline was rushed and underdeveloped. Troy is the star quarterback who arrives late to be interviewed by Charlie. She writes a scathing article about him. They end up being roommates though and Troy decides Charlie is just so hot when she’s mad. They “prank” each other even though it’s really just them doing destructive shit to each other once and then they just can’t fight their attraction to each other anymore. The plot goes off the rails a bit after that and it felt like soap opera level drama was happening. A car accident, family drama, another prank but now on a friend… throw in magically resolving a horrific 10+ year old trauma in an instant and I was done.
