Payoffs in trilogies or series is everything for me. I hate being hooked by the first or second book to start the next only to find myself utterly disillusioned by it. The Strong & The Stolen puts in the work to wrap up this thread of Reina and Kai's lives.

Jumping into the future, we see a distinctly different world. Reina and Kai are separated again, both doing their duty/paying for their choices and actions. Fae are leaving. The citizens that relied on them are turning away from them. It's a real tangible controlled chaos. When the old enemy pops up, when Kai knows that Reina is in trouble, he's out to help her, to keep her safe. It's the end of his redemption from bully to respectable person.

Reina's strife with Yemoja from the last and this book resonates. Parent-child relationships are never easy and Chenelle didn't gloss over it. The worry is real, the frustration is warranted.

I was continually impressed with how easy it was to connect with characters in this series. The relationships that formed, the reactions to one-sided love, it all felt right. There wasn't any feeling of things being shoe horned in at the last second. As a finale it was great. The world wasn't perfect, but the day was saved, and people can live in peace for a while. A perfect spot to leave the story.

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Brittni Chenelle!

The Strong & The Stolen
is the third and final book in the Gifted Fae Academy series and continues the story of Reina and Kaito.

The Strong & The Stolen was another great book written by Brittni Chenelle! I really liked this book because it was a fun and fast-paced read and I really liked the ending of this book. The story is also really original because I haven’t read something like this series before, which makes me enjoy it even more.

I love how much Reina and Kaito changed from book 1. I remember not liking Kaito and now I have a different opinion about him. Reina is such a brave character and I love a strong heroine! I really liked reading in the two perspectives because you get to know more about the character’s feelings and intentions.

The Strong & The Stolen was such a good and quick read. I love it when books have shorter chapters because it’s easier and faster to read. I also really liked that at the end of the book, there was a link to the Gifted Fae Academy Yearbook. I loved the illustrations and it was nice to see how Brittni Chenelle imagined her characters to look like!

I can’t believe this is already over! I’m going to need some time to recuperate because I do not want this to end!

First of all, that three year time jump in the very first chapter really threw me off in the best way. How could Reina and Kai deal with that?! I know I was kind of shocked but so glad that Chenelle got us through it without making us suffer. I believe that in that three year span, Reina and Kai had the opportunity to grow into their own selves, and do what they need to do alone. They weren’t completely alone – at least not Reina anyway – but things were definitely not the same as they were at the end of The Brave & The Broken.

I guess I should almost mention that there will be slight spoilers from the first two novels in this review, but I’ll try to make them as vague as possible. You’ve been warned!

Fast paced and high stakes

I loved the overall character ARCs and felt like overall the ending to the series was really satisfying. I especially liked how to romance ARC developed and how the world changes in this book. The twists and turns kept me guessing until the end, so I had plenty of aha moments that made me want to keep reading.

It is amazing how much the characters have grown and the world has changed in ways that make it unrecognizable from the beginning of the first book. Things that once seemed so important have fallen to the wayside as they face unprecedented challenges and are forced to make decisions with world changing consequences. They have a vision from a seer - but seeing isn't always the same as understanding. More a love story that the previous two books, this final installment brings together all the pieces in a way that is unexpected, yet very satisfying. Death, loss, and re-round purpose all play a role in this thrilling series conclusion.
