This book was such a beautiful depiction of how deeply complex and yet simple humans are. Bachman is truly incredibly with how he writes people. Everyone is  nuanced and he can make me feel empathetic for anyone’s situation. This story covers an extremely dark topic, so be sure to check the trigger warnings. Bachman made me feel every single emotion. I’m also sooo impressed with how he can showcase an entire town’s worth of characters and I’m still able to follow it. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the heavy topic makes the reading experience…heavy. It’ll be hard to reread but I know I will someday.

Wow. Just woe. Beautiful story book kind of feel. The story is much more about the town rather than any specific character. Even with the huge cast of characters, it really tells the story of the town, it's community, values, and culture.

Fredrik Backman is immensely talented. Everything about his writing style is consumable, but it's also haunting. I don't know if there's another author I've read from that would have been able to write something like Beartown.

Beartown is traumatizing. Backman doesn't pull his punches. You know something horrible is going to happen. There were times when I was reading that I would step away to do things and I would be sick to my stomach. It's brutal.

Not only is Backman a talented writer, he is phenomenal at character work and setting. All of the characters read like someone that could live down the street. I was in the run down, small, forest town the whole time. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend this to anyone unless they are looking for a horrific experience.
