In this book we meet carnival “freaks” who are just normal people who’ve been gaslit and told they’re different and don’t belong in society. It’s heartbreaking to hear how poorly they feel about themselves and because of that how quickly they do whatever they can to “belong”. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are the only people who treat them as equals; not that it did them any good.

I should’ve been able to read this much faster, but I was in a FAT slump. It is a fast paced read and I thoroughly enjoyed this installment of the Beaudelaire’s tale. It is as dark and traumatizing as the ones before, if not more so.

Quotes:
“I always thought people with birth defects were unfortunate but now I realize they’re hilarious” -Hook handed man

“People are always liking of violence, please.” -Madame Lulu

“Miracles are like meatballs, because nobody can exactly agree what they are made of, where they come from, or how often they should appear.”
