If you go into this book with no expectations you'll enjoy it! The concept was so interesting to me that I was hooked until the end. Do I wish there was more closure for Sylvie? Hell yes but other then that it was a fun read but I did expect more from the ending.

Very, very average. I remember struggling to get through this read and it was just the first one of the year. A very interesting idea and I still think about it from time to time, but nothing too special in my opinion. I wasn't overly invested in the characters and the reveal of what was going on in the end was just alright. I think the idea of dreams is much more alluring than the clinical take this book took it too.

Sylve meets Gabe when they are both students at an elite boarding school. Gabe leaves and Sylve moves onto college. However just as she enters her final year she reconnects with Gabe, she drops out and they go to work for their former headteacher who is an eminent psychologist conducting research into lucid dreaming. Sylve finds trouble sleeping properly and her research and real life start to collide as she has vivid dreams about her neighbour. Are her dreams reality or is she part of something a lot deeper?
Having read and enjoyed Benjamin's previous novel 'The Immortalists' I was keen to read this which is apparently an earlier book. Benjamin has a wonderful way of writing which in this case mirrored the dreamlike quality of the story. Unfortunately I did not find any of the characters sympathetic and that made me enjoy this book less than I wish I had done as I feel Benjamin is a rare talent.

the book description is not good bc this book cannot be summarized. if u like: nonlinear narratives, capricorn female narrators, constantly having 100000 questions about what is happening, surrealism, questions of science/ethics, and frequent descriptions of the sun/moon - this is The Book for you.
chloe benjamin if you’re reading this i love you and i could never read a science book for anybody else
