What a ride~ I have to admit, I definitely relied on an audiobook to help me get through Crime and Punishment. It kept me engaged and made it easier to remember all the characters’ names and plot points; especially since it was my first time navigating Russian naming conventions.

I enjoyed the book, especially how every character is well-defined and serves a clear purpose. Characters like Sonya, Dunya, Razumikhin, and Zossimov each come with unique traits, quirks, and values that make them feel like real, well-constructed individuals. The storyline also interweaves in unexpected ways, adding an exhilarating layer to the reading experience. Sometimes I’d catch myself thinking, “where are we heading next with this storyline?” only to be completely winded as it unfolded.

While the story can be dense at times, it’s beautifully crafted. Fyodor's talent for creating well-defined characters who interact meaningfully ensures that nothing feels out of place. This essence allows the reader to be truly perceptive of the plot and the characters' actions. Plus, I found the ending to be quite satisfying, which is another win in my book!

Poverty and malnutrition in a society and depression drive a young student into a deep mental despair, leading to tragic choices and unforgivable actions.
