Definitely different from her other books. This was darker, but relatable for me.

I loved this book so hard.
It is not a conventional romance novel. It is extremely confronting, hardhitting, disturbing, and uncomfortable to read in places as it addresses some very serious issues but it was so hard to put this book down.
I was really invested in the drama.
This will forever be 1 of my favourite reads.

The story focuses on 3 different perspectives
1. Carter/Luke - an undercover cop and knight in shining armour. Admittedly, he's not great at his job 🙃 ( my new book husband 😍)
2. Asa - a deluded, narcissistic, drug-dealing psychopath with a deadly obsession.
3. Sloan (I hate that name) - a college student and Asa's long suffering girlfriend. She is lied to and manipulated at every turn. I really felt for her and the appalling situation she was trapped in.

i felt interested in this story, i don't expect to re-read this or recommend to anyone. so much content warning, some of it unwarranted. sloan was a character i loved
i hated asa with my entire being (which i guess was the point)
. the story wasn't super predictable which i liked. the ending gave me all the answers i was looking for and it didn't make me cry. over all, my least fav hoover book. possibly my least fav book of the year so far.
