This is a ROUGH read, content-wise, and I'm not necessarily someone who is often bothered by darker books. However, McGowan does a good job trying to parse out the possibility of a serial killer in an environment that barely paid attention to violence against women, as well as retroactively realizing that she grew up in this environment without realizing it. The Troubles monopolized all news and police response, and while that is certainly understandable, it's still a tragedy that these women were let down in the process.

I've never been so bored by the writing of a true crime book. Really interesting cases involved, but I very almost added this to me DNF

It was well told but all the cases blended together. Which is sad because each woman was a unique life. I also was disappointed by the lack of notes or bibliography. Didn't help lend credibility to this author.

Great read in that it provided fantastic information about a problem that is very little talked about. Definitely something I will be referring to friends of mine! The only issue I had is that there was a good but of redundancy, especially after a point had already been drilled in several times. Otherwise, a really powerful read.
