Couldn't decide between 2 and 2.5 so 2.25 stars. Could have been used to speak about so many things and the plot could have gone so much further.

This book was a big meh. The story is about Ava, a new mother from an Asian family who did everything she was expected to do. She went to college, became a lawyer, met a wonderful man who is a doctor, and started a family. Ava lives a perfect life on paper but is bored and stressed with a toddler at home. She meets her former college roommate, Winnie, who left school under questionable circumstances. Winnie is put together until Ava realizes Winnie is a significant player in a counterfeit bag ring. Ava gets inadvertently sucked into the counterfeit bag ring. We are led to sympathize with Ava and think she is just another pawn in Winnie's crime ring, but Ava knows what she is doing. She is intelligent, bored, and willingly participates in criminal activities. They're just handbags. What's the harm.

I don't find the material relatable as someone who is not into handbags. Both characters are pathological liars and insufferable. There is nothing redeemable about the story.

Quote to sum the book up: "Those luxury brands, they’re the villains. We’re on the same side here. She pinned down my hand like she had the saleswoman’s, as though she’d read in some manual that a firm touch at the right moment could weaken a person’s resolve."
